The flange is sealed with a gasket. The term “flange pipe fittings” refers to pipe fittings with flanges (flange or adapter).

It can be created using either welding or a threaded connection. Two flanges, a gasket, plus some bolts and nuts make form the flange connection. In the middle of the two flange sealing surfaces is where the gasket is inserted.

The gasket surface deforms and is subjected to a specified level of pressure once the nut is tightened, filling in any irregularities on the sealing surface and ensuring a tight connection. Titanium is a new type of metal. The characteristics of the substance are impacted by the presence of impurities such as carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, and oxygen.

Properties of Titanium Flanges

The flange made of titanium is very strong.- Titanium alloy has a density of around 4.51g/cm3. Some titanium alloys with high strength are stronger than many alloy structural sheets of steel. As a result, titanium alloy has a substantially higher specific strength than other metal structural materials.

Titanium alloy has a strong thermal strength and can operate at temperatures between 450 and 500 °C for extended periods while still maintaining the needed strength.

Titanium alloy operates in humid environments and seawater; it has great resistance to pitting corrosion, acid corrosion, and stress corrosion; and it has excellent corrosion resistance to alkali, chloride, chlorine organic compounds, nitric acid, sulfuric acid, and other acids, among others.

Titanium flange performs well at low temperatures.

Low and ultra-low temperatures allow titanium alloy to preserve its mechanical characteristics. Titanium alloys like TA7, which have excellent low-temperature characteristics and relatively little interstitial material, can maintain some plasticity to – 253 °C.

Due to its high chemical activity, titanium reacts strongly with airborne molecules such as ammonia, water vapor, CO2, O, N, and h.

Titanium flanges have a low thermal elasticity of 15.24 w/(m.k). Since titanium alloy’s elastic modulus is only about one-half that of steel, it has weak stiffness and is easily deformed.

Types of Titanium Flanges

Titanium lap Joint flanges- They are utilized when used on titanium piping that has lapped pipe or lap joint stub ends, and the combined initial cost of the two items is roughly one-third greater than that of comparable titanium welding neck flanges.

The titanium weld neck flange- is a type of flange that is intended to be butt welded to a piping system. Due to its long neck, the titanium WN flange is rather pricey but preferred for high-stress applications. Stress concentrations at the base of the Welding-Neck flanges are decreased by the neck’s or hub’s transmission of stresses to the titanium pipe.

Titanium threaded flanges- are shaped similarly to titanium slip-on flanges, however, they can be assembled without welding because the bore is threaded.

What are Titanium Flanges?
